CSaP Policy Workshop on the use of AI in cancer care and cancer research

Over the next 10 years, the number of cancer cases is set to rise, increasing the cost and pressure on cancer care services. The integration of AI tools into cancer services, from diagnostics to logistics or scribing, could reduce the number of lives lost to cancer and transform the experience of patients and clinicians. Stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, policy makers, industry experts, regulators, and researchers, must share insights and align activities to maximise the potential benefits and minimise potential harms.

The Policy Workshop was organised in partnership with the Mark Foundation Institute for Integrated Cancer Medicine (MFICM), at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cambridge Centre, University of Cambridge, and delivered in conjunction with the 2025 ICM Symposium, “AI in Healthcare: Governance and Policy”.

The discussion examined where AI tools could be implemented to the best advantage of service users and providers and what evidence, infrastructure, capacity, and resources would be necessary to integrate these tools at scale.
