Amanda Sferruzzi-Perri (ASP) is Professor of Fetal and Placental Physiology at the University of Cambridge. A developmental physiologist by training, her research investigates the dynamic interactions between mother, placenta, and fetus that determine pregnancy success and shape lifelong health. Her work is advancing understanding of pregnancy complications, the early-life origins of maternal and offspring health, and women’s health more broadly—including how biological sex differences influence health, disease, and the development of tailored treatments.

Amanda completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2007 before joining Cambridge as a CJ Martin Fellow (NHMRC, Australia). She went on to hold a Next Generation Fellowship at the Centre for Trophoblast Research and a Royal Society Research Fellowship, before being appointed to the permanent faculty in 2019 and promoted to Professor in 2022.

Her contributions have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Lister Institute Prize, the Society for Reproduction and Fertility Young Investigator Award, and the Andrée Gruslin Award from the International Federation of Placenta Associations.

Beyond research, Amanda is active in science advocacy and policy development to improve outcomes for women and families worldwide, and she is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
