Deputy Director, Research, Evidence and Knowledge

Carolina Arevalo is the Deputy Director for Research, Evidence and Knowledge at the UK Health SecurityAgency where she is responsible for strengthening and expanding UKHSA’s role as a leading research organisation. She and her team lead on ensuring UKHSA synthesises, generates, disseminates and mobilises knowledge and evidence and undertakes research that meets priorities and is ethical, lawful, quality-assured and conducted with integrity, involving patients and the public in its design and conduct. She has previously held posts at the National Institute for Health and Care Research, the Department of Health and Social Care and the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership. Carolina has a background in research in biomedical engineering, orthopaedics, education and flexible learning. Her current interests include development of research prioritisation methodologies, research on research, mobilisation of knowledge and evidence and identification of knowledge and evidence gaps during emergencies. Carolina holds an undergraduate engineering degree from the National Polytechnic Institute (Mexico), an Executive MBA from Nottingham Trent University and a PhD from University College London.
