Director of Policy, The Royal Society
Chris is Director of Policy at the Royal Society, responsible for delivering real-world impact from its published work, events, and scientific excellence. He holds a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and has broad career experience across the private and public sectors. Chris joins the Royal Society from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, his last role as Director of International Science and Technology. During his time in government, he was the Prime Minister's Deputy Representative for the first AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park, acted as the UK's Tech Envoy to North America, chaired NATO's Transatlantic Quantum Community, and led the first government dialogue on AI between the Chinese and UK governments. Chris is recognised for his expertise on AI governance and the intersection of technology and geopolitics, frequently speaking at international events on these topics. He lives in Surrey with his wife and two sons.
