Lisa-Maria Tanase, Political Psychology Lab and El Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy, University of Cambridge
Lisa-Maria Tanase completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy and the Political Psychology Lab. Her research aims to address inaccurate perceptions around policy acceptance that may discourage politicians, including MPs, from taking stronger climate action. She was awarded the Policy Innovation Grant by the Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy, which allowed her to organise a policy workshop at the Royal Society with the support of Dr Lee de-Wit Professor, Lucia Reisch and Dr Malte Dewies, and policy partners the Parliament Office for Science and Technology and the Behavioural Insights Team, bringing together politicians from Parliament, policymakers across government, senior polling experts, and behavioural policy experts, with the event content aiming to help political leaders feel more confident in their assessment of public acceptance vs opposition to climate policies, and in their communication strategies around climate policies.
Her research insights contributed to the UK Parliament Net Zero Select Committee Evidence Inquiry, and additional national and international policy reports including by the EU Commission. She was invited to advise on a new project by the University of Copenhagen building on her studies of UK Members of Parliament testing MPs' misperceptions of climate policy public support, extending the research she developed to the Danish Parliamentary context.
Prior to her PhD, she worked at the Cambridge Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication in the Mathematics Department, and this year she will be launching her science communication platform and continuing to further develop the policy engagement she has built around her research.
