Policy Fellow, Population Health Improvement

Nia is the Deputy Director for Health Protection Strategy and Response at Welsh Government where she has policy responsibility for prevention, preparation and response to health protection threats including outbreaks of communicable disease and pandemic preparedness. Nia provides strategic oversight of the health protection system in Wales and leads engagement with partners across the UK.

After starting her career as a solicitor in a top law firm in Cardiff, Nia joined Welsh Government in 2013. With extensive experience across public, private, and third sectors, Nia is passionate about collaborative policy development and building resilient systems.

Prior to her current role, Nia led initiatives in health inspection and regulation, in education and in agricultural policy as part of preparations for EU exit. She returned to health during the Covid-19 pandemic to lead on testing policy.

Nia is a lifelong advocate for people with learning disabilities.
