Baroness Sally Morgan became Fitzwilliam College’s ninth Master on 1 October 2019.
Sally was born and went to school in Liverpool. She was Political Director and then Director of Government Relations in 10 Downing Street from 1997-2005.
She became a peer in 2001 and served as Minister for Women and Equalities in the Cabinet Office.
Sally was a member of the Olympic Delivery Authority board for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and is a former Chair of Ofsted and vice-chair at King's College London.
She studied Geography at Durham University, PGCE at King’s College London and later took a part time MA in Education at the then Institute of Education.
She has always been involved in education, firstly as a teacher and since 2005 was Chair or advisor to a range of charities serving disadvantaged young people. She is a Visiting Professor at KCL.
After 7 years as Chair of the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, latterly as part of Guys and St Thomas’s Trust, she was appointed in January 2025 to the Chair of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Sally is a member of the Cambridge University Council. She also sits on the advisory board of the Centre for Science and Policy, the advisory board of Cambridge Growth Company and is a board member at CUHP.
