Policy Fellow, Centre for Science and Policy

Sam Littlejohns OBE is a Deputy Director in the Government Legal Department, and established an Inquiries Response Team in the government Legal Department, focussing government expertise in the complicated interplay between public inquiry scrutiny and national interests. He and his team support all parts of the government when responding to relevant public inquiries.

Prior to his current role, Sam was joint head of a team handling public law litigation for the central government. He has also been an advisory lawyer to the Ministry of defence, working on both international relations and a range of other matters. Before that he was a Brexit negotiator in DHSCLA, and then one of the first lawyers working on the emergency response to COVID-19, ultimately becoming co-lead lawyer on lockdowns.

Sam is also a reservist in the RAF, where he has deployed on live operations to provide in-the-moment legal advice to commanders and decision makers.
