Dr Sam Stephenson is a research associate in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. His research explores the requirements, risks and opportunities associated with delivering a zero carbon future.

Sam’s research sits at the intersection of engineering, economics and politics to bring an interdisciplinary set of methodologies and analytical approaches to understand techno-economic challenges stemming from the need to decarbonise. He currently works on the Climate Compatible Growth research project where he looks at the demand for critical minerals in decarbonisation pathways and the implications for geo-political and supply chain disruptions. He also explores the geo-economic and development opportunities associated with critical mineral development in the global south.
