Senior Research Leader at RAND Corporation

Sana Zakaria is a Senior Research Leader, and a Global RAND Scholar for Pandemic Preparedness, working on emerging technologies and their intersections, such as AI, neurotechnology and synthetic biology. Her work focusses on assessing the societal and biosecurity implications of technological advancement and broader systemic risk. Her work looks at unpacking the factors affecting technology demand and supply, assessing oversight mechanisms for technology, and building resilience and preparedness in society. She oversees the Europe based team of the RAND AI Technology and Security Policy Center and leads the Frontiers of Technology hub at RAND Europe. She holds a PhD in Molecular and Neurobiology from King’s College London.
